Oulu Uni­ver­si­ty Hos­pi­tal among World’s Best Smart Hos­pi­tals 2026

Oulu Uni­ver­si­ty Hos­pi­tal has proud­ly secured a place in the rank­ing pub­lished by Newsweek and Sta­tista. The list fea­tures 350 lead­ing hos­pi­tals across 30 coun­tries. This year’s rank­ing also high­lights stand­out cat­e­gories in spe­cif­ic areas of dig­i­tal inno­va­tion.

The World’s Best Smart Hos­pi­tals rank­ing is based on an inter­na­tion­al online sur­vey, the Sta­tista Smart Hos­pi­tals Matu­ri­ty Sur­vey (SSHMS), Joint Com­mis­sion Inter­na­tion­al hos­pi­tal accred­i­ta­tion, and inde­pen­dent research. In 2026, the SSHMS intro­duced three addi­tion­al recog­ni­tion tiers:

• One rib­bon for hos­pi­tals scor­ing below 80%
• Two rib­bons for hos­pi­tals scor­ing between 80% and 89.9%, with at least sev­en of 10 top­ics answered
• Three rib­bons for hos­pi­tals scor­ing above 90%, with at least nine of 10 top­ics answered

Promi­nent hos­pi­tals fea­tured on this year’s list include Mayo Clin­ic – Rochester (#1), Char­ité – Uni­ver­sitätsmedi­zin Berlin (#8), She­ba Med­ical Cen­ter (#9), Karolin­s­ka Uni­ver­sitetssjukhuset (#11), and Aarhus Uni­ver­sitet­shos­pi­tal (#14).

Oulu Uni­ver­si­ty Hos­pi­tal ranked #286. The eval­u­a­tion focused on the hospital’s use of arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence, robot­ics, telemed­i­cine, smart build­ings, and elec­tron­ic health infor­ma­tion sys­tems, among oth­er inno­va­tions.

These hos­pi­tals are rec­og­nized as glob­al lead­ers in med­ical inno­va­tion, dri­ving sys­temic changes that will shape the future of patient care.
