Oodi launches infant crying pilots to support family and healthcare communication
A healthtech startup, Oodi, is on a mission to make family life easier and improve the flow of communication in healthcare. To achieve this, the company conducts several pilot tests to further develop its innovation.
Oodi is developing a digital application that helps parents track and visualise their baby’s crying patterns over time. During spring 2026, the team launched parallel pilot activities in cooperation with Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OAMK) in Oulu and Lapland Testbed in Rovaniemi. A further pilot in a maternity and child healthcare environment is currently in preparation.
The ongoing Lapland Testbed pilot has already provided early observations that are helping shape the next development phase.
“Many parents experience real uncertainty when their baby cries for extended periods. The goal is not to replace healthcare professionals, but to give parents a clearer picture of what is happening and make that easier to communicate during, for example, neuvola appointments,” says Satu Niemelä, co-founder of Oodi.
Feedback gathered during the pilots highlighted how difficult it can be for parents to describe crying patterns accurately during time-constrained healthcare appointments. The company is exploring whether structured, home-collected data could help families better understand the situation and support more informed discussions with healthcare professionals.
Oodi is currently preparing the next development phase of the platform and planning international market validation ahead of a planned UK market entry later in 2026.
The team behind Oodi previously developed the internationally recognised OnniCare baby monitoring project, which received two European Commission Seals of Excellence and multiple innovation awards.
