Medanets wins Oulu Export Com­pa­ny of the Year 2025

The annu­al entre­pre­neur­ship awards are pre­sent­ed by the Board of Busi­ness Oulu. This year’s cer­e­mo­ny took place on 17 April at Oulu City Hall. Medanets was rep­re­sent­ed at the event by one of its founders and cur­rent Chair­man of the Board, Tuo­mo Nie­mi, along with CTO Vesa Järvi­ta­lo.

A first win that feels espe­cial­ly mean­ing­ful

Accord­ing to the CEO, Juha-Mat­ti Ranta, win­ning the company’s first-ever award in its 22-year his­to­ry feels par­tic­u­lar­ly mean­ing­ful. ‘Our growth in exports has been dri­ven by the fact that we’ve had to look beyond our imme­di­ate sur­round­ings. In the past, we’ve received hon­ourable men­tions and reached the finals in sim­i­lar com­pe­ti­tions, but this is the first time we’ve actu­al­ly tak­en home the top prize.’

One aspect makes the recog­ni­tion feel both reward­ing and slight­ly sur­pris­ing: “We’ve nev­er suc­ceed­ed in secur­ing our own region­al well­be­ing ser­vices coun­ty or its uni­ver­si­ty hos­pi­tal as a client. That’s some­thing we need to reflect on our­selves, as we clear­ly haven’t man­aged to con­vince them. At the same time, this has pushed us to look fur­ther afield.”

Exports will remain cen­tral to future growth

The Export Com­pa­ny of the Year award recog­nis­es long-term, suc­cess­ful inter­na­tion­al busi­ness devel­op­ment. The recip­i­ent is a com­pa­ny that has sig­nif­i­cant­ly increased the share of exports in its turnover or made notable new open­ings in inter­na­tion­al mar­kets.

Medanets’ solu­tion has gained strong trac­tion abroad.

“We haven’t gen­er­at­ed any rev­enue from the Oulu region, yet around 120 hos­pi­tals cur­rent­ly use our mobile solu­tion, with rough­ly half of them locat­ed out­side Fin­land. The num­ber of inter­na­tion­al hos­pi­tals will grow sig­nif­i­cant­ly in the com­ing years, as we already have orders from over 60 hos­pi­tals in Nor­way, Eng­land and Ger­many,” Ranta explains.

“Our growth is on a sol­id tra­jec­to­ry, and the out­look remains very pos­i­tive. In 2025, our rev­enue reached €5.4 mil­lion, with 30% com­ing from inter­na­tion­al mar­kets includ­ing Swe­den, Nor­way, the UK and Ger­many. Going for­ward, most of our growth will con­tin­ue to come from abroad, and the share of exports in our rev­enue will increase fur­ther,” Ranta con­cludes.
