Launch of VTT Pilot Line for Diagnostics

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd has a long history in research, development and pilot fabrication of printed intelligence which can be applied, for example, in wearable sensors on the skin.

Recently, VTT has taken a step further and invested in a dedicated laboratory space intended for the development and pilot-scale manufacturing of next-generation point-of-care diagnostics in collaboration with industrial customers. The VTT Diagnostics Pilot Line is a clean room facility with controlled temperature (+22°C) and humidity (20 RH%) to guarantee stable manufacturing conditions and consistent performance of the manufactured devices.

VTT’s Diagnostics Pilot Line is suitable for the development and pilot-scale manufacturing of lateral flow assays, molecular diagnostics, microfluidic sensors, optofluidic chips and electrochemical sensors. The laboratory’s offering includes e.g. assay chemistry development, material screening, development of fabrication methods and pilot-scale manufacturing. One of VTT’s focus areas in the development of next-generation diagnostics is the emphasis on sustainable materials and manufacturing methods for disposable diagnostics tests. For the manufacturing of lateral flow assays, the capacity of the pilot line is 1000-2000 test strips per week.

More information about specific equipment in the laboratory is shown in the video.
