Optomed develops an IT system for the Finnish University Eye Clinics

Optomed has been awarded a contract to develop an advanced IT system for the automation and evaluation of outcomes in ophthalmic care. The system is developed for the Finnish University Eye Clinics. Optomed was awarded the contract together with Carl Zeiss Oy through a public innovative procurement process.

During the development phase, Optomed will create the system together with the Finnish University Eye Clinics. The development phase revenue is expected to be approximately EUR 350.000 and it is expected to last for 18 months after which the joint municipal authorities’ Health Care Districts will separately decide upon the deployment of the new system. The serving areas of the five University Hospitals cover approximately 60 % of the Finnish population, i.e., approximately 3.3 million people. Optomed retains the intellectual property rights of the new IT system which enable its sales and productization globally.

Markku Myllylä, VP Software, comments:
‘We are very excited about this opportunity to develop the new IT system together with the Finnish ophthalmology professionals. The aces-rwm concept (automation in care and evaluation of system with real-world monitoring) designed by our clients is an innovative idea aiming to increase the effectiveness and evaluate outcomes in eye care. This project is, in accordance with Optomed’s mission, an excellent example of cost-effective and scalable solutions aiming to prevent avoidable blindness and reduce overall healthcare costs.’
