Letterkenny University Hospital deploys ProWellness’ chronic respiratory diseases system

Letterkenny University Hospital has announced its decision to deploy ProWellness Chronic Diseases  Management System (CDMS) Respiratory module to support the care of patients with COPD and other respiratory conditions.

This builds on the successful use of the  Diabetes and  Cardiac modules in  Letterkenny and  Sligo  University Hospitals over the last number of years.   With the deployment, the hospital and wider stakeholders in the community have leveraged the benefits of the CDMS system and the existing modules. Using the same platform for three major chronic illnesses will enable seamless information sharing on patients with comorbidities and improve overall patient care and experience as well as allowing professionals to work more efficiently and improve information management.

Speaking about the deployment Mary Murphy, Project Manager with LUH said; “ProWellness has been an excellent partner in the development of the system adapting it to clinician and stakeholder needs as well as customising it to reflect the requirements set out in national care pathways (NCPs). We are able to monitor the emerging diabetic population and reports are generated and used for ongoing audit and management purposes. The ultimate aim is that all staff who care for people with diabetes  or heart failure would have access to the system and information would be shared between primary  and secondary care professionals.”

Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Cathy Farrell added: “The outputs from the CDMS system have enabled us to provide strategic overview to both hospital and community management with  regards to people with Heart Failure in LUH & Donegal community settings. The electronic patient  record is a valuable tool for managing patients on an ongoing basis as information is readily available  on management targets, test results and reviews. It allows seamless and real-time communication  between primary and secondary care staff, through access to other HCP documentation, same day  electronic GP letter and prescriptions generation which are emailed directly to recipients.”

Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) is an acute university and maternity hospital serving 147,000  inhabitants of County Donegal in Ireland. LUH is also a teaching and its campus is one of Ireland’s busiest.
