Because you want to be an important part of this revolution – you are warmly welcome to join the most important 5G event in the world: Oulu 5GFWD Hackathon 9-11 June 2017. It will gather together the best brains in business: developers, designers and other experts. As well as the coolest companies who will make it big with 5G.

One hackathon challenge comes from Oulu University Hospital

How to make customer journey in hospital more pleasant with 5G tech? Things could be better, because: customers get lost and are afraid about their forthcoming treatment, hospitals are complex places, customers are afraid about smells and health care professional, they feel insecurity linked to practicalities in just being in hospital (wait, food/drinks, toilets, accommodation, contact to the professionals and other patients). When in hospital treatments, the customers would like have clarity to scheduling and communications with professionals, making easier for guests to make visits “house rules”. There is an information overflow about self-care when leaving hospital and all the different customer segments are given the same info.

Background

There is huge potential to improve customer journey in hospitals with 5th generation of wireless systems. University hospitals in general are large building complexes. For patients or visitors even managing to arrive on the right entrance is a challenge. Wireless solutions and applications could enable to pinpoint the current location of the patient on the map and to guide them to right destination. Customer experience could also be improved by utilisation of mobile solutions to enable detailed digital information of upcoming operations or treatments.

Enabled by 5G mobile network, there could be autonomous robots to assist in navigation and to keep company to the patient. Also, when in hospital, patients could order e.g. food and beverages and a robot would deliver it directly to the customer. AR-technology could be used to provide patient relevant information related to their upcoming treatments, schedules and physical parameters with real-time connection to hospital information systems.
