Women’s Health Hub Finland Opens National Network to Companies and Researchers Across The Country

Women’s Health Hub Finland, a new national initiative launched in Turku, is inviting companies, researchers, and healthcare innovators from across Finland to join a growing network dedicated to advancing women’s health.
While the hub is rooted in Turku, the network is expanding nationwide and welcomes participation from across Finland, including from our community in Oulu. This is a significant opportunity for companies, startups, researchers, and healthcare innovators in the Oulu region working in women’s health to connect with national and global partners, access new collaboration platforms, and tap into the fast-growing global market in this sector.
Why This Matters
Historically, women’s health has been severely underfunded in research and innovation. Despite women making up more than half the global population, only about 1% of healthcare R&D funding (excluding cancer) has been directed toward female-specific conditions. Women’s Health Hub Finland aims to change this by advancing sex-specific research and innovation, from prevention and diagnosis to treatment and care.
A Growing Global Opportunity
The women’s health sector is one of the fastest-growing global markets, currently estimated at €100 billion. The hub seeks to both address urgent unmet health needs and strengthen Finland’s position in the international health innovation ecosystem.
Who is Behind It
Coordinated by Business Turku, the network already includes some of the most prominent players in the field:
- Major pharmaceutical and diagnostics companies such as Bayer Oy, Orion Oyj, Revvity/Wallac Oy, Organon R&D Finland Oy, Uniogen Oy, Roche Diagnostics Oy, Abbvie Oy, Takeda Oy, and Isla Terveys Oy
- Research groups from the University of Turku and Turku University of Applied Sciences
- Public sector and healthcare experts committed to driving long-term impact
Spotlight on Innovation
The hub benefits from Turku’s long-standing strengths as a pharmaceutical development powerhouse, where over 50% of Finland’s pharma and diagnostics industry is based, but its scope is national. Participants will collaborate on new research, pilot cutting-edge solutions, and create innovations that directly improve women’s well-being across the lifecycle.
Companies and researchers working in women’s health or related fields are encouraged to explore this opportunity. For businesses developing solutions in diagnostics, treatments, digital health, or conducting relevant research, Women’s Health Hub Finland offers a platform for national collaboration with a global ambition.
