Medanets was suc­cess­ful­ly imple­ment­ed in the well­be­ing ser­vices coun­ty of Ostro­both­nia

The Well­be­ing Ser­vices Coun­ty of Ostro­both­nia has imple­ment­ed the Medanets mobile solu­tion as part of a com­pre­hen­sive infor­ma­tion sys­tem cov­er­ing both pri­ma­ry and spe­cialised health­care. The Life­care EHR (Elec­tron­ic Health Record), pro­vid­ed by Tieto­evry Care, serves as the core of the sys­tem, with Medanets seam­less­ly inte­grat­ed to sup­port work­flows.

The Medanets app allows nurs­ing staff to doc­u­ment key patient data and access up-to-date infor­ma­tion on their mobile devices, whether they are with the patient or on the move. The infor­ma­tion doc­u­ment­ed with­in the app is instant­ly avail­able to every­one involved in the care process, on both desk­top and mobile devices, ulti­mate­ly improv­ing the flow of infor­ma­tion between health­care pro­fes­sion­als.

The intro­duc­tion of the app stream­lines nurs­ing work­flows and helps main­tain accu­rate, up-to-date doc­u­men­ta­tion in inpa­tient wards. Accord­ing to Car­o­la Wisur-Hokkan­nen, Project Man­ag­er of the well­be­ing ser­vices coun­try, the app sup­ports health­care pro­fes­sion­als by smooth­ly enabling doc­u­men­ta­tion dur­ing patient encoun­ters, pro­vid­ing evi­dent ben­e­fits to the staff, and has gath­ered pos­i­tive feed­back.

The deliv­ery of the sys­tem was car­ried out in phas­es, start­ing in Octo­ber 2024. The Medanets app was intro­duced in ear­ly 2025 as part of the roll­out. The imple­men­ta­tion was a col­lab­o­ra­tive effort between the health­care provider, Tieto­evry Care, and the IT part­ner 2M-IT.

The solu­tion includes a com­pre­hen­sive set of Medanets fea­tures, such as the Dash­board, Obser­va­tion Val­ues, Ear­ly Warn­ing Score, Clin­i­cal Forms, Mon­i­tored Patients, and Med­ica­tion. The Med­ica­tion fea­ture also comes with an option­al mod­ule for dis­play­ing med­ica­tion images and addi­tion­al infor­ma­tion, which is cur­rent­ly in the test­ing phase and will be launched lat­er. Sep­sis screen­ing is also planned for a future phase of the roll­out.

At the request of the health­care provider, all key user train­ing was deliv­ered remote­ly via Microsoft Teams. The train­ing was con­duct­ed in both Finnish and Swedish, sup­port­ed by on-demand train­ing videos in both lan­guages. Key users then took on the respon­si­bil­i­ty of train­ing end users on the wards. The approach proved effec­tive, with the app now in suc­cess­ful use across mul­ti­ple wards.
