Building the foundation for a healthcare transformation at Oulu University Hospital
The Hola 5G Oulu project is making significant progress towards its goal of launching a private 5G SA network at Oulu University Hospital. The project has reached a crucial stage: the essential network infrastructure is in place and the team is currently on-site at the hospital, installing key components.
The initial deployment phase is complete, with all the Remote Radio Heads (RRHs) successfully installed. The focus is now on integrating the Baseband Units (BBUs) and the geo-redundant high-availability core solution. These components are critical for ensuring the network’s stability and resilience, especially in a setting where reliable connectivity is of utmost importance. This on-site work follows a period of rigorous testing in a controlled lab environment, where the network was put through its paces to ensure it could handle the demands of a hospital setting. The team is confident that the network will provide the high-quality, reliable connectivity that Oulu University Hospital needs. The team’s presence at the hospital marks an exciting step forward. It’s rewarding to see the project taking shape and working closely with the hospital staff to ensure a smooth installation process and minimize disruption.
Once the BBUs and core solution are integrated, operation theatres, and patient wards have a fully functional Private 5G SA network. Further tests will be conducted to optimize the network’s performance. This will pave the way for the final stages of deployment, including the integration of wireless wearable technologies from WICOAR Technologies OY.
This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team, who are among the best experts in the field. The project remains committed to delivering a cutting-edge network that will transform healthcare at Oulu University Hospital and open a new era of patient care.
